my managuenses have laid eggs, what should i do about my jack dempseys that are in the tank? the jacks are only about 3 inches 2 female jacks and 1 male. :help: are there any special procedures to follow when trying to raise managuense fry?
Just a guess, but I think you'll want to remove the jacks. Even if the jacks don't go after the eggs or fry, the jaguars will probably be nervous about them in the tank and go after them--resulting in ripped up fish. Are you sure the eggs are fertile? Often first efforts won't be...I'd check with the folks over at Mojo's.
If the eggs were fertilized they should be an amber color. You will probably have trouble getting rid of the fry. I'd reccomend at a few weeks of age just removing them for a few hours and then put them back into the tank the parents may see them as food after that. LFS most often won't take them because they have a hard time selling the larger cichlids. You will have a couple thousand fry with a good spawn.
how long do i have until the eggs hatch? my female is becoming more and more protective of the eggs. just within the last 6 hours, i first noticed the eggs the tuesday night.
