If anyone here is from the Toronto area... Or if anyone knows....

Where can I find mangroves? I have been toying with the idea of re-aquascaping my 66 gallon brackish tank and would like to use real mangroves instead of driftwood....

THANX

Buddy, mangroves, the geographical place, are located down south near Florida or Mexico or South America, or someplace in SouthEast Asia. Mangrove ROOTS however, are a different story. You should be able to flip through aquarium catalogs and magazines or on the internet finding information on these plants.

I saw a little 3" mangrove "stick" at my LFS. Thinking about buying it...

I thought it would be understood that I meant mangrove roots, sorry I didn't add that one word. I am having a hard time finding any stores that carry them up here and even fish magazines aren't very widely sold....

no no, its my pickiness dont worry ;)

but yes, they are hard to find

I brought a few red mangrove propagules home that I found on the beach that still had a nice green to them, but no roots just yet.

Several people have told me about fines for collecting mangrove seeds; however, I think that pertains to cutting down and damaging settled trees and propagules. I don't think any real trouble can come from picking up a few pods while collecting seashells. Uhhh...at least lets hope not.

Petsmart has great fake ones.

Thanx to all for the info, I knew they would be hard to find, but didn't think they'd be that hard! I was thinking of fake ones anyways...

And they're safe for aquarium use(fake mangrove roots)? I have a PetsMart in the area, but haven't seen them there... Wonder if they can order some in for me?

Check their website, then print that out and take it to the store manager. They'll usually bring in something that's listed online, with no shipping charges.
