has any one dissected one in bio class or happen to know anything about them. im talking about the structures of their brain, and if it has any of what we call "new brain" structures.
has anyone taught their mantis shrimp to do tricks?
By new brain structures do you mean neopallidum. Good question, I don't know. I was interested in cephalopods intelligence also...it appears they have a brain the surrounds the esophagus. I'll google for some research papers quickly see if I can find you one.
After a quick bit of googling I found this pic. I'd always throught shrimp etc just had ganglion (nerve clusters) but it looks like they have a 'true brain'.
Looks like pairs of "cranial nerves" exiting on either sides also. Dr. Caldwell would be the one to know this question, a stomatopod expert thats posts on tonmo.com once in a while.
