Mantis shrimp spotted....

i may be able to help if your looking to find the mantis a new home...and willing to ship. mantis would be only one in a 20g long

You could build a 10 gallon for these really cheap! 10 gallon tank, 10 lbs of sand, 1 nice chunk of live rock, and a power head! You're ready to go! Best lighting would be something really dim, so moon lights would be great for them. You're talking maybe $150?

if this post was directed at my 'i'm not ready yet!' comment, i'm just not ready to delve into the world of saltwater quite yet. someday, but not yet.

a mantis in a sump i think has very little chance of being killed. i'd be more worried about any other fish or inverts in there with the mantis!

Pretty sure I mentioned that depending on species it can injure or kill the Mandarin. I was more commenting on most marine aquarium owners trap and kill Mantis Shrimp. This is a shame because they are actually a very cool pet in a species only tank. I have owned two different species so far. My current one I've had for over a year now.

I haven't been able to get a picture of it yet, but my mandarin had his head in the shrimps burrow and my cucumber has been hanging around outside thw burrow with no issues. The only way I even found the mantis was the dust cloud it kicks up digging out his home. I have heard the clicking but never saw the little guy, did some pruning on the macro and found him.

Only pictures I could get so far. If we can find an acrylic all in one pod/cube (it'd go on the kitchen counter) we'd give him his own tank, that's all we need. There is 90lbs of sand cycled and 60lbs of LR cycled in our hobby room

Also, I was talking to the boyfriend about this thread and he offered the evidence of....

When he was trimming back the macro algae he saw Manfred (the mandarin) and then something blueish/greenish go darting by at a rapid hover.
