Where the wild things are
Veil tailed blue blush angel is the female of a thrice spawned pair. She has fin & tail rot that I started treating w/ Maracyn 5 days ago. Seems to have stopped any worsening. Color, activity and appetite remained good. Parameters are good. Increased aeration with treatment. Temperature is and was 80f.

Food is alternating spirulina, tropical, veggie, angel, brine shrimp and color enhance flake along with live and frozen brine shrimp, daphnia, micro pellets and a little frozen spinache. They have a 30g. that they share with a black cory and a couple hornwort sprigs. Sand bottom gets a good cleaning twice a week along with each 25% water change.

-Should I finish 7 days of Maracyn before doing anything
else?
-Was going to start Metafix to encourage fin recovery.
Since I can't tell if the affliction was bacterial or fungal
should I treat with Permafix also, and if so can I do so
simultaneously with the antibiotics or must I wait?
-If I should use the Metafix do I use it at the same
time as either or both ?
-Should I be using a different approach altogether?

Do not use Maracyn with MeLafix or PIMAfix. Melafix and Pimafix are safe to use together, but neither is designed to treat ich.

Bacterial and fungal infections are quite different in appearance. If it doesn't look like cotton growth, it's not fungal.

I would do a 50-75% water change and start from scratch treating.

Add a little salt and do water changes, do not medicate when it is not necessary.

We run in to this from time to time and the best cure is water changes not meds.
Clean water and a little salt goes a long way with Angels and Discus.

Over time your fish will develop an immunity to certain meds , so when you really need Meds they will not be as effective

How much salt? Tspn. / gal.? I normally do a 25% water change twice a week anyway. Should I do more? Also, won't the salt build up in the tank even with the water changes? How persistent is it?
