OK I accidentally bought tetracycline when I intended to get maracyn-two.
I think I can use the tetra cycline to treat what seems to be a swim bladder infeciton in my betta...following Mardel's little flow chart for diagnosis (both drugs are listed as effective).

From what I read, it seems like tetra cycline is less potent than maracyn-two and may not be absorbed in the same fashion. Am I right?

Both treat against gram-negative organisms.

Do I need to take any special considerations for absorbtion of the tetracycline? Like I could soak his food in a tetracycline solution to get it to be taken internally? I assumed it would enter through the gills, if not consumed.

Any info appreciated:)

Do not quote me on this but I have heard that if a fish is suffering from Swimbladder Infection or Disease, another option would be to crush up a green pea and let the fish feed on it. Again, don't quote me on it. I tried to save a goldfish that had the same problem but it died before I could give it the green pea.

That is for constipation. The symptoms are similar.

Anyway, I have been using the tetracycline, in the second consecuative treatement. The fish actually eats it! SO i hope it is getting into him. His symptoms have improved I think, but he still floats at the top and only eats 1-2 pieces of antibiotic soaked food before he won't stay upright.

Still can't figure what the difference between tetracycline and maracyn-2 is. Oh well.
