My husband and I are starting a 28 gallon bowfront with livebearers (mollies and platies). I am very interested in Marimo balls (moss balls), but because they are algae I wonder if my fish will eat them down to nothing. Has anyone tried keeping the two together--algae balls and algae lovers?

It'll be fine

I really think it's okay to mix the marimo balls and the fish. My friend Becky has a tank full of mollies and the like and she's kept moss balls in there for a few years now:)

Will be fine... the fish don't like it and if it looks like they're eating it it's because they're eating something off of them.

Agree, the marimo balls should be fine with the fishes (platies and mollies). I currently have my marimo ball in with a group of platies and another in a tank of snails with krib babies. They are still there.
