what is the best fish to put with a wolf cichlid?Ive tried a cactus pleco, but my little killer pulls him out of the rocks and shreds him up,this fish is insane.....any ideas??

By wolf I guess you mean a dovii...If you have an agro one theres not much he wont kill...Fish would need to be bigger/more agressive than it...maybe a big RD or a Jag...anything else will be considered food or foe and will promptly be eaten or killed.

How big of a tank are we talking about. Is your dovii a male or female?Pretty much the only thing that can put up with a dovii is an Umbee, Buttikoferi tilapia, maybe a male Jaguar cichlid. Sounds like he doesn't like plecos. I have a very ill tempered male Jag that kills anything you put in with him but a 6 inch Striped Raphael Catfish. They are very spikey catfish that are tough and can take care of themselves.

redtail cats get huge and are agresive. Sounds like you may be looking for a clean up crew with a Dovii. (AKA Wolf Cichlid) As stated above your going to need a huge tank and make sure the redtail cats is bigger then the Dovii. The Dovii is a very smart fish. It will even ambush and kill other Cichlids in the wild. I believe I read some where that a Dovii shouldnt be kept in a tank smaller the a 180 gal. Your going to need at least that for a Redtail Cat. A Redtail will also eat anything it can fit in it's mouth.

Those 2 fish would be my dream tank.

Assuming you have a big tank, a black shark would be fine. Its not a cichlid but its just as tough if not tougher than one and they can max out at like 24 inches. He'll grow faster than your dovii, and may even dominate your dovii if he reaches his full size and temperment potential. here is a pic of one in a 180g tank:

There isn't much a mature dovii won't kill. It sounds like he's claimed the tank as his territory already. I wouldn't put another cichlid or a black shark in there, that's just going to result in dead fish.

I guess you've never had an adult black shark. They are pure evil sometimes, no way a dovii takes an adult black shark out. Possibly the other way around. I have never ever heard of any cichlid killing an adult black shark but I do hear about bs's killing large cichlids all the time. These sharks grow to be twice as big and certainly stronger than adult dovii's, I guess if you put a juvinile with a dovii it would be over quick but certainly not an adult. Take a look at this video and if you still doubt that the black shark is an absolute brute I wont argue with you.
Video might take a min to load.

What I've never had is an adult dovii. What I do know is that at a LFS I frequent had a 17" black shark literally rammed to death by a 12" trimac, and that my at the time 6" managuense killed a similarly sized black along with 2 tinfoils that I put in as dithers in a single night. We all love the fish we keep and will fight to protect their "honor", so to speak...but saying a black shark will be twice as big and stronger than a dovii is just wrong. I haven't seen any 48-60" black sharks, have you? Nice video btw, it certainly is an impressive specimen. I still wouldn't put him in a tank with a monster like this guy though ;) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tK9w1o2MFz4
