While there isn't a hunting season for raccoons, I wonder if you can get a nuisance permit from the Dept of Natural Resources to remove them?
We can get nuisance permits for deer here and take them out during the off season, even as a homeowner. You do not have to have a commercial operation (like a farmer or orchard).

I have heard that Raccoons hate music? Place a radio on your deck and they may steer clear of the area. anyone else ever hear of this?
Make a scarecrow, those little efs,or maybe something from halloween that when ever something passes it,it makes sound.
a .22 would work. to avoid the noise you can always use a slingshot. they are quite aggressive and can be very defensive... i wouldnt take my chances with them.
Ugh... that sucks. I hate raccoons. Sometimes leaving a light on will keep them away. There are a couple of repellents that seemed to work for awhile. I finally got a great pyrenees- that did the trick!
Dang, you don't mess around with the little dogs do you? LOL
Do you groom your dog much? I'd love the undercoat that sheds out of it. It makes wonderful yarn.
