Melanotaenia boesemani (rainbows)

This is one of my favorite fish. I got a bargain at the LFS a couple of months ago-they had them priced at 25% of normal retail-same price as the regular rainbows. When I asked if this was accurate, they said yes so I said give me all twenty. Now I have one sharp looking 55 gallon.

I keep mine at about 75 degrees. They eat everything and are a busy, schooling fish. They will out compete slow swimmers such as angels for food and little if any will reach the bottom feeders. I have had trouble with a large male Turquoise rainbow being agressive with other mid water swimmers and smaller females(lots of chasing but nothing real serious) but have never had the boesmani in that small of a group. They generally have been peaceful with other fish in the community I have (angels) except for the feeding time jostling.
