Metal halides w/anemone

Hello AC,

Would I need metal halide lights to keep an anemone? Right now I have a compact flourescent and an actinic (I guess that would be called 50/50). If it's positioned near the top of the aquarium would it get enough light?

in my opinion, yes, or at least a good amount of t5s

I would say VHO or T5 or MH lighting would be necessary for *Most* Anemones.

I'm still researching into it, I was thinking of having 54 watt Giesemann PowerChrome Midday 6000K bulbs, with a Tek fixture... If you have any suggestions they are definitely welcome

And I was going to have one blubble tip anemone.

is it harmful if one uses PC lights?

you will slowly kill the anemone. it feeds from light.

Sorry to post an add on question. I have a mixture of PC's and t5's, (2) of both in a 4' 55 gal. The t5's are both Giesemann aqua blue (which are 60/40) and running from a ice cap ballast. I also have flower anemone and 1 sebae. Both anemones only about 1 month in the tank. The sebae which I thought would want to be as close to the light as it could, has attached itself to rocks near the bottom, I had it higher on the rock but he moved down. He looks fine still a nice white color with purple tips on short tenticles, and the maroon clown just lies in it all day and night. If it was not getting enough light would it move higher in the tank? I know they are not the nomads like a Cordy if it is not happy will always be rolling around the tank.

The anemones like the bluer light than the 6000k. A friend of mine had a tank with several anemones in it at one time. He had just replaced some of his 10k T5 bulbs with actinics. During the day all of the anemones migrated to a spot in the tank directly under the blue light and planted themselves there for the next 8 months until he broke down the tank.
