I think the reason forum trolling occurs so much is lack of negative consequences. It's not like some sicko who gets their jollies antagonizing people here is ever going to face any real repercussion for their mentally unstable or anti-social behavior. Maybe we can devise a way to rochambeau someone over the internet.

On the bright side, maybe the troll's release of their negative emotions online satisfies their psychologically sadistic tendencies and actually prevents them acting out on a more destructive level. The solution as I see it is keeping registration quick and easy for people who are here for the right reasons, while developing a decent method for filtering out spammers and trolls. Not easy...
