Micro Reef?

Maybe in oddball question but is a micro reef setup possible? Say in the 2.5 Gallon range.

I have an extra tank and thought it would be an interesting activity.

Is it possible? Suggestion on how to approach?

Yes, it's possible but, you would be limited as to what you could stock. I would keep it an invert tank. You'll also have to keep a close eye on your params but, in short yes you can do but, it won't be nearly as easy as a larger tank.

I have a 10 gallon nano-reef. I really don't think its as hard to keep as people say.

a small reef tank is always possible, what makes a stable reef is the ammount of effort you are willing to put into it in my opinion....

it will work, but you'll be very limited as to stocking (I also reccomend inverts only.) and the margin on error is incredibly slim.

I agree. But that might just be due to the fact that many told me it would be really hard so I expected the worst. I was also suprised to find out how much more rewarding it feels compared to freshwater. The discoveries on liverock make all the difference. And the coloring is amazing.

Only bad part for me is I want to house more fish. But I figured I can turn my attention to corals and more featherdusters (gotta luv those guys) until I find the time and money to start a large saltwater tank (probably won't be for another year or two).
