micro worms?

A microworm hatchery consists of one culture and an empty margarine tub...Pop a few small air holes in the top...
There are oodles of people selling microworms on aquabid.

microworms are smaller than brineshrimp/artemia. They are ideal for bettas or other fish that require food smaller than newly hatched b/s. The combination of m/w and then b/s can have excellent results

If you can find a local fish club and just ask for a starter culture you could save some cash. Maybe ask nicely at a lfs (one of the employees is bound to have a culture going). Litterally all you need is a teaspoon of someones medium dropped into a fresh culture contianer (i use a tupperware container) and they will cover the container in a couple of days. I use cornmeal with just enough water to make it milkshake thick and just enough to cover the bottom of the container as a medium.
