I bought a green severum about a year ago, it was about quarter size. a year later I don't think it grew any more than a milimeter.

i know these guys get pretty big, but when! right now he is swiming happy in the african tank, but he has a whole 55 gallon to himself soon as he gets bigger, how long does it take for these guys to start growing!

If you have a whole 55 gallon just waiting for the severum why wait until he's 'big enough'? What determines this? I guarantee you he'll grow a heck of allot faster in a 55 by himself than in a smaller tank that houses other fish!!

Are you sure it's a Severum? I have a Jellybean Cichlid that I thought was a stunted growth severum! Look up that name on Yahoo, and check out what that web site says.

I had bought a pair of tiny green Severums a while back. They stayed tiny for the longest time, then I changed their diet. They were getting Tetra Tropical Crisps, then I started to alternate with frozen Piscine Energetics Mysis shrimp (brine shimp work too, but not as well). I tried the Hikari frozen Mysis in the cube trays, they just were not the same and were the size of brine shrimp. The growth rate exploded after feeding with the Mysis shrimp, in a couple weeks they more than doubled in size. I found all fish grow better if you supplement with some good quality frozen foods. They will also love ghost shrimp if they can catch them.
