Might get a seastar. I'm a little rusty on keeping marine aquariums.

But I also think that with the exception of the CA mantis shrimp they all look like overgrown plankton and they look weird so I'd buy a pistol shrimp. Which one do you think?

6-12 inches is way too big a mantis for a ten gallon tank, 3-4 inches max

i only ever saw my pistol shrimp during feeding time. my mantis is out all the time, especially when im near the tank

Doubt you will see much of a pistol shrimp, unless you have a goby too...they are basically blind, so, on its own, its goting to feel very vunerable, and stay hidden....pointless buying just that in my opinion..

Okay, what should I get that will look really fun and interesting? Pistol shrimp and goby or mantis shrimp?

Yeah, but I have a very hard time deciding. I should get a cool looking mantis shrimp that is good size and doesn't look like overgrown plankton. If I can't find one like that I'll get the pistol shrimp/goby combo. Anything that is hardier and fun to keep.

Remember though, both Mantis and Pistols make loud noises quite often. If this is in a bedroom it may annoy some people.

A Mantis would be a more active tank. Even when pistols pair up with gobies they don't go too far from their burrow. Neither are very active compared to a mantis.

Okay, I guess I should get a cool looking good sized mantis shrimp soon.
Anyone know any mantis shrimp that don't look like overgrown plankton that can get to a good size?

As for the noise, I don't care. I already have my f8 tank on the floor next to my bed in my room, so the filter doesn't bother me.
