Hi guys, I just came back from Thailand where I was inspired by the numerous mini ponds all over the place there, with lotus, nenuphars, and other emerged and floating plants. No filter, no pump and yet the fish in there looked healthy and thriving. In most cases he stock was guppies, sword tails or platys. There were a few bigger ones with comets as well.

I live in a climate similar to Thailand and I have plenty of Argentine Sword and mini Nenuphars in my koi pond and I want to try my hand at a mini pond, using existing material at zero cost. If its a success then I'll think of buying some Chinese vases for my garden. I have already setup something simple and I have added some guppies in it from my koi pond.

My question is this. Instead of guppies can I add cherry barbs? and shrimps? I live in sub tropical climate and the coldest it ever gets is 16 deg c and hottest is 33.

I would check temperature requirements (I'm not able to do it for you currently)

But my instinct is it may be too hot. Especially for shrimp

I would pay attention to the average water temperature mid day, mid summer too, as sun and shade can affect it rather than just air temperature too
