Missing a weekly water change.

It is VERY unlikely that it will hurt anything missing one regular water change...just catch up as soon as you can!
 
yeah my last water change required 6 gallons to replace the water that had evaporated...
what can i say i've been extremely busy with school and work plus dry weather causes water loss even quicker. Then again there werent many inhabitants in my tank at the time which kept the levels from getting out of hand along with the help of 9 or so live plants and a bio-filter.

goodjustin...i hope i've misunderstood this but since you are new i hope you dont think that a water change is just replacing evaporated water...you actually have to take water out of the tank and replace that....i dont mean to insult your intelligence if you didnt mean it like that, but it just sounded like you were only replacing evaporated water.
 
I have been researching water changes. I say when you miss your day make it up even if it is a day later and smaller than normal. I had one experience with a missed water change when I was working a lot and the fish were stressed and a white cottony substance appeared and I did a major one and everything was ok. It was a day later than I usually do. My tank was full at the time and I am a heavy feeder at the time so I would recommend a make up and stick to your regular schedule for best results from my research.

I've missed more than one but I make sure to do it the next day or two. Missing one, hence going two weeks without a change, can be harmful depending on how your tank is stocked, the species you're keeping, and filtration. Planted tanks may require small water changes. Some species require large water changes. Over filtering may allow you to go longer between changes. Whatever the case my be, establish a regimen and stick to it.

I'll just be getting home today from 2 1/2 weeks of being out of town and no water changes. I'm not too concerned about my fish in my 40b given bio-load of stock, filtration capacity and the amount of live plants I have. Needless to say, I will be doing a 25% change when I get home today and another 25% change tomorrow. BTW, I have an Eheim automatic feeder I spent weeks with getting the food amount to the right portion so my fish got enough food and I didn't waste any food either.
 
This is all very interesting. I bet it was really interesting in 2007, but that was before I joined AC so I can only wonder.
