Mixing tetra species?

Would it be problematic to have two different species of tetra in the same tank? I have a school of 6 diamond tetras and was visiting the LFS and noticed they had lemon tetras which would really brighten up my tank. Would this be a problem? Assuming I have the room?

36 gallon planted tank

1 pictus cat
1 BN pleco
6 diamond tetras
2 peppered cories (for now, a few died a week or so ago and am reluctant to replace. The survivors seem healthy though. I would add 4 to my existing 2.)

My dad use to have a tank full of different type of tetras no problems. Just makes sure you have enough schools of each species because they most likely will not school together. Also make sure they are not too small since pictus cats love to eat small fish

Yeah, these ones seemed big enough for him not to take interest in. He doesn't bother the diamonds but they are bigger than what the lemons would be.

I would get no less than a school of 6.

I don't see any problem with mixing diamonds & lemons as long as you keep at least 6 of each. Your Pictus will really appreciate a larger tank (probably a four-footer) as it grows up, as they are very active in a proper setup.

I have Rummy Nose and Black Neon tetras in my 55G, they do fine together. In fact, quite often I will see one of the Rummy's hanging out with the Black Neon's (usually when he loses his other Rummy buddys and does not want to be alone!)

Should be fine. The main consideration is tank size. Although, I'd be leery of mixing a known fin nipper like serpae tetras with a long-finned tetra like Diamond tetras.

Tetras of different kinds will usually not school with each other. The exception is neons and cardinals, which might school together since they look so similar. They don't always though.
