I was looking at getting a moon light for my 55 gal. I was wondering what you guys think of these lights. Does it bad for the fish? Is it good for the fish? What are some good brands? How many lights should I get for a 55 gal? Thanks

I think they look good and are perfectly fine for fish but I haven't got one set up yet. I will be in the future though, once I get my 55 bought, set up and ready. Try this thread or asking Fishez, the person who's selling the DIY kits as well. :)

i think they're rediculous. are you going to stay up all night watching your fish under 'moonlight'?

Well do you stay home all day watching your fish while the regular lights are on? If you do then youve got issues. Moon lights are awesome, and give the tank a very cool look while also enabling you to see some nocturnal activity.

I am regularly up until 2 or 3 in the morning so I wouldn't mind seeing my fish at night without startling them with the harsh glare of the normal lighting. :)

Besides which, moonlighting also makes for a good "night light" to help see through a room at night, especially if the aquarium is located in your bedroom.

I built one for my tank for a few bucks and the results are awesome. It's great to impress people and I have seen no ill effecton my fish behavior. I have nocturnal creatures and the moonlight system has helped me to enjoy them better.

To build it, I went to Radio Shack and bought 10 3volts blue LEDs , an universal power converter (like those used for discmans and stuff) and about 30ft of speaker cable.

Using electric solder, I positioned in the tank using silicone glue and then ran the electric wire among them (any person with some knowledge in electricity can do it for you, if you are not confortable with electricity).

When I turn off the main lights, the critters come out and behave like it was dark. The only difference is now I can see them-

Finnaly, got some almost decent pictures of my tank with the moonlight system on.

The rippling effect with the water on the rocks is soooooooo soothing. Wish I had a better picture.

I'm going to get some for the 65g in my son's room. He loves to watch his fishes at night and that way they both can sleep :)

when my money is deposited I will get some from the classifides, the lights help triggure some of the nocturnal fish
