im setting up my 20 gallon FOWLR this week. i have a normal lighting fixture and don't plant to upgrade it. but i would like to have the blue moon light (actinics i believe) because i like how the look at night time. how would i set it up? the cheaper the better. any input on how to do this is appreciated

thanks

heres what i did... for only about $20 - $30 (including wiring) you can pick up blue LED's and resistors from radio shack or any store like that. wire them all together (its not hard to do, just ask the clerk at the store if you dont know how to do it) and super glue them to the fixture that you have now and plug them in. I would assume with a 20 gallon tank that 4 LED's would be more than enough... thats what I have on my 30 gal and it looks absolutely beautiful. cheap, easy, and very very effective..... good luck.

cold cathode lights.. about $20. You can get them from any computer parts supplier. Carefull when using them tho, I'm not sure they are waterproof. So far, mine are working great. The light is spread out evenly unlike the led lights.
