OK my LFS has a Moorish Idol, now I know how every body feels about keeping them but if the LFS has it someone will buy it. The Moorish Idol is eating and looks very healthy, and I'm thinking of adding it to my 180 GAL. I know this is a sore subject for some and they should be left in the wild, but I feel that it would have a better chance with me then some person buying it that No's nothing about this fish.

If it's eating, then go for it! Beautiful fish. Good luck with it if you decide to get it.

You can certainly try it. Even people who have had them for years usually end up failing (sorry to say) with this species.

I wouldn't buy it. I figure if we all "saved" fish from the LFS/chain stores, it would be never-ending, like a catch 22. The LFS would just keep stocking them because of their "demand" (not specifically the moorish idol, just a general example).

Just my personal opinion. Specifically though their survival rate in captivity is so poor but I wish you well if you go for it and if you do...many many pictures please! :D

Edit- I guess I figure if no one bought it, it would die in their care (most likely) and the odds are more toward them not ordering any more.

I've been dealing with this LFS for a long time and they do care about there fish. since I've started with saltwater 3 years ago I've only seen 3 of them at there store this one being the smallest. I hate to see it just waist away in there tank that's why I would like to bring it home and give it a good home.

PS yes I've seen it eat

Look in the AUG issue of "Fresh and Marine Aquarium" Magazine they is a big article of Morish Idols in captivity.

whats wrong with an idol? wouldnt 3 years be successfull for a fish?
