mopani wood

I put several pieces of mopani in my brackish tank like 6 months ago.. it gets some sort of mold/fungus growing on it.. like globs of snot.. it builds up pretty good each week and i scrape it off before doing the water change..

I dealt with exactly the same thing last night, so I took the wood out and boiled and scrubbed it. Fingers crossed the fungus creature stays away. :lipssealedsmilie:

what do you do if the mopani wood is too big to fit in a pot to boil it?

Since mine was a long, relatively narrow piece, I boiled one half and then the other.

So... how did the wood ever turn out? I have always used the salt n' vinegar soak then boiling in freshwater. I have never had a problem... I think it works because the salt n' vinegar mixture is antibacterial/ antimicrobial and the boiling just further sterilizes....
