So this is like the 5th $50 or $60 blood parrot i have purchased, my fault i know but it will help you understand my frustration. All the fish came from different stores and died a few months later.

The latest one was pretty large and bright red, i asked the LFS what they feed him for his color and purchased the food, almost instantly he stopped eating that food and only enjoyed frozen which i fed him because he was not eating at all (my fault again), he has now quit eating that stuff as well and his lips are swolen like somone punched him in the mouth.

All water params are spot on, temp is 74, ph 7.2 water changes every two weeks, tank is 110 gallon with large but peacful cichlids.

What am i missing, while frustrated i really love these fish, ask me questions if you think i've missd something and please HELP!!

Thanks!!

It is just a shot in the dark but maby the gross deformality that those fish suffer:sick: is the root of the problem. How about you try a couple of gold severums instead?

Ok...the problem...you believed the LFS. Second, BPs eat anything. Try all kinds of diet.

LFS will do anything to sell their product to make a few bucks. My BPs eat anything and keep their bright orange color. I make sure they eat their spirulina, cichlid stick, hikari gold, and some tetra color bits. Frozen food, I give them bloodworm, brineshrimp, sometimes krill, and mysis.

If you want to change the BP diet again, try not to feed them for couple days. Then feed them their regular diet. Make frozen food their treat.

Maybe you need to look into fish disease. None of mine ever has lips swell up just from eathing certain things.

Color fating can also cause by a few things. When I had ammonia and nitrite issue, their color fate to almost pink. You might also need to check your water.

Also, just feeding them frozen food isn't what I called "healthy" diet. Try to give them all kind of food.
