Hi Everyone,
I have a 10 gal with 6 neons at the moment and was going to add a couple of guppies, but I was wondering if it would be better to add a few more neons instead? The params are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and less than 5 nitrates. And this is the day before I do my water change, so I think I can stand more bioload.

Thanks for your input!

I think so. As long as they are healthy (meaning you can keep them without problems) and you have the room, the larger the school, the better they all look.

However, sometimes if that's all that's in the tank, they get comfortable and are likely not to school, which is why some people also put a different fish in the tank. (Like a gourami.)

Yea, they don't really school much now, so maybe another type of fish would be more interesting for them. Or maybe they school out of fear and are happier with only their own kind. But, in nature they certainly would be with other types of fish...that are trying to eat them! Hmmmm, wot to do!?!

add a few more neons. a couple green plants in the back really pops them out of the tank.

I second that. And remember, adding guppies means (unless they're all one sex), adding guppy babies! And then more babies, and babies after that. And then sometimes babies ;)

Hehehe...yes, must avoid that! I was going to get two Tequila Sunrise males, but I think I'll get more neons instead. I do have a green background already and the noons do look good against it.

How many more should I get for a 10 gal?

Thanks!

Make it an even 10 neons....it will look good even if they don't school, which is unlikely in a 10g anyway, "threat" or no...
