morons buying fish

I agree! Not to get too over-analytical  , but I think part of the problem is that it's challenging to find balance as a consumer sometimes.

While I value the expertice of the local privately owned LFS, I struggle with the idea of paying 2-4 times what equipment costs me buying from Fosters/Smith online. I'm willing to pay some extra, but 2 to4 times more on almost all equipment? And with all the info available online, even the LFS knowlege is losing some of it's tangeable value.

I'd love to buy it all from my local and knowledgeable private LFS and gladly pay 20% more if that's all it was, but that's not an option......so.......I'll admit I frequent Fosters/Smith online, and do my homework here. I still buy the fish from the LFS of course.

I gave up a loooong time ago trying to help anyone at an LFS...You just end up looking like a nosey know it all...The best approach I have found is to let everyone and your brother know that you keep fish and if they know of anyone with problems, to contact you...

My sentiments exactly. I tend to keep to myself for the most part when frequenting fish stores, but will gladly strike up a conversation with a fellow enthusiast should the occaision arise.
I used to try and suggest platys instead of goldfish to folks looking to buy goldfish for 5 and 10 gallon tanks, but honestly, most people just don't want to hear it (or maybe they're specifically turned off by me). Either way, it's not worth the hassle, as the majority of the people in a Petsmart or Petco don't realize that the nametag adorning the shirt of whatever kid is working there requires no knowledge of fish to wear. Hell, I'm just some wierdo without a nametag.

hmm

And that's another personal attack. Say good night, Gracie! OG
