Is there any way to get my moss (it's either Taiwan or Java, I don't know the difference) to grow into a carpet on my gravel? I currently have in wedged into and under my lava rocks to prevent it from floating.

not to my knowledge, but I have seen fissidens carpets before, it may be possible

Never could do it myself.

I used the rossiboy's suggestion to tie it to small stones, and spread it out in a carpet in the corner of my tank. I also tied some on top of a larger stone. Mine is doing well - some of it roots to individual gravel pieces, but in general it's stuck on the quarter-size stones only.

Might be a lot more work but how about using window screen? Tuck it in the sides of the gravel and tank wall. Cut out areas of screen where you want other plants. Just a thought

I put some moss in some plastic mesh and in 4 months it has not grown through the mesh. If you use mesh you will probably need mesh used for moss specifically. In the areas of my 10 gallon where the moss was half burried by rocks and gravel the moss has started attaching to the rocks. Good luck though

This is the java moss that I got with my RCS. Did not know what to do with it. No place in tank and decided to put it on wall.

The other pic is peacock moss (I think) on a branch.

My planted tank was setup only for 2 months now
