I have a rather large piece of driftwood in my 55 that I found at a local lake a few years ago...Some time ago, I noticed a green, fine leafed growth forming on part of the wood(on a limb knob)..at first I thought it may have been some kind of algae, but it has not grown anywhere else in the tank or anywhere else on the driftwood for that matter. It is a bright green color and appears to be some kind of natural growing moss that adapted to living under water...and has been doing so for over a year and a half. Has anyone ever had this to grow in thier tanks or have any ideas as to what it may be? It would be nice if it would spread over the entire piece of wood, as it looks awesome and gives the wood a very natural appearance...I can't post a pic of it yet(no camera:rolleyes: )..but I did find a link that has something that looks very much like it....maybe some of the plant experts and botanists out there can figure this out.

Looks a bit like Fontinalis. I have what you show in this pic, I'm not that keen on mosses, liverworts I'm better at, but have that exact species it looks like. Mine was growing on rocks at a pH of 5, GH/KH = 0/0.
Nice stuff.

Interesting, I looked up fontinalis and found a few write-ups about it at the Krib...so it is a true aquatic moss then...nice...I'm glad I never cleaned it off my drifwood;) ..maybe I can get this stuff to spread if I can find out what it really likes.
