Moss mesh/structures?

I'm trying to create something looking like a baobab tree, and I'm right out of ideas for a fish safe form to keep the moss on that won't show up too much. Getting all the tiny branches attached in to a thick piece of driftwood is out since they'd be so thin that they'd snap easily. I also can't imagine trying to hide the joins of the branches to the wood gracefully. So, does anyone have any ideas for materials that I could make a fairly precision structure out of for the moss to grow on?

Superglue would work wonders for what you are trying to achieve.

Mesh is your best bet or dark yarn

I'd just find some driftwood that had once been a root ball, then attach some mesh where you want the moss to fill in thickest, tie it all on with fishing line. Roots tend to be tougher and more flexible than branches and look cool :D

Hm. sounds like mesh is the consensus then. Is there any kind that'll be non-toxic to fish, yet hold any shape it's pressed in to? Any favorite materials/brands?

The root ball idea is a neat idea. I'll have to keep an eye open for one. Size is going to be tricky; this is a 10g I'm doing it in.

I was going to go all perfectionist biotope LTK biotope with the tank until I figured out the cost of doing it. It'll have to wait for a bigger tank.

I think superglue might be a touch toxic; I'll be sticking with aquarium safe silicone. Crap... that was a pun, wasn't it?

Superglue is not toxic Reefers have used it for years ...... I have used it for years in tanks with inverts which if anything is sensitive they are.

Here is a link to another thread on the same subject ....

Also all of these tanks have something supperglued in them... Look at the 5.5 that moss ball is glued on as a matter of fact tonight with just the water level lowered I plan on adding another clump if I have enough left over after working on the new 10 gallon. Which by the way that piece of wood is 3 pieces glued togeter using super glue, quite a lot at that and silcone. The pieces are then glued to the bottom of the tank.

Hm, never would have guessed. I figured superglue would be one of the last things to go in a fish tank.

Superglue is aquarium safe after it's dry (not before). Ordinary staples would not be safe under water... wrong kind of metal.
