Moveing to a bigger house 5 miles away

yep decided to get out of this sub 500 square foot fishtank zoo for a real house.

starting to move the fish tanks this afternoon with the smallest ones
with the majority of stuff moved sunday

I'm stoked. This house is bigger than anything i have lived in in the past.

has a lovely spot for a large showpiece tank but I will have to see if the old house is up to supporting such a tank
 
well going to be unconected for the next few days, till some time tuesday when they move the cable.... hehe we getting a faster conection over there :D
 
well back up and here again... still not really settled yet, have stuff over at the other place yet. but most of the move is done and I am enjoying(at least for a moment between working on the place) the 3X faster conection we have now...

ah but I had cable internet befor we moved, just the lowest speed cap charter offered.... ie fishbase.net used to take about 20 seconds for the page to load and now its almost instantanieous.
 
If you are worried about an older house supporting a big show tank, the chances are that it will. Old houses are often much stronger than new houses. For example, if you are building a new house and you need a 12" I beam, the wood is only 11.5 inches thick. This is because engenieers have determined that 11.5 is strong enough, so the builders save money by using less wood. I cant make any promises that the floor is strong enough, but I can say that any floor built in 1950 should be stronger than a floor built in 2000. Strange, isnt it?
 
this house is probably older than 1940. the owner, who is in his 50's, parents lived here in the house when he was born.

and seems to be one of the older sections of town... right next to a college that dates back 100 years ago or so

its a real interesting thing putting modern things in this house as none of the outlets are grounded. the meter box outside is grounded but none of the circuts inside are. the cable for the internet and tv is grounded so we ran that through a surge protector to ground the equipment through the cable.

the house is of the era of wood floors and now has carpet down so all the inside doors are really snug to the floor. I'll have to do some measurements of the floor frameing and see what ya'll think of its weight holding capacity
