I’m in the process of moving – not very far and in the same town.

I emptied the 49-gallon yesterday, leaving a little water and some of the gravel base. The rest of the gravel is in a 5-gallon bucket with some of the tank water.

Fish were moved to my 40-gallon breeder tank and I added aeration. I’m sure it’s a little overcrowded right now, but hopefully it will only be a few days.

I finally got the back of my 49-gallon painted flat black – don’t worry, the tank was taped and covered in newspaper – none of the paint go in the tank. Off subject, but I am excited to get both tanks painted.

I’ll be moving the 49-gallon and setting up today. I saved some of the tank water. After the set-up, how long should I wait before reintroducing the fish?

I do have a battery powered aerated 5 gallon bucket for fish transport, and will be transporting in tank water.

Are there any other suggestions you can give me for the move?

empty it completely or risk a leaking tank at the other end of your move. keep the filter media wet during the move.

We just moved about 3 blocks away, and had an awful time with it. One thing I'd suggest is to move the fish in tupperware when you're actually transporting them. They should be able to stay in there for a few hours, depending on the fish.

Also, don't move the tanks with ANY water in them. We've used gallon milk/water jugs to transport water with some success.

Even though we cracked the bottom of a 10 gallon on our lawn, and had to dump all the fish in there into a bucket at the last minute, we didn't lose a single one. It was amazing.

Good luck!!
