Alright, ladies and gentlemen...

I added salt today (1.024) and the sand. 2" bed of white marine sand and 1" bed of Fiji pink Aragonite sand.

Now...my question. My tank is so murky you cant see through it and there is a foamy, flothy layer at the top of the water. What do I do to get rid of these 2 things?

Both of my Whisper 60's and my powerhead is running. Should I turn these off? Will it cause the murkiness to go away?

I found it better to leave them going too...but your dont supposed to wash thesand in the first place wayne.....gives you a better bio bed later on......itll go away soon....

Your sand will settle down. It'll take about a week or so after your bacteria start producing enought protiens etc to kind of make your sand bed a little bit well stickier. Also some of the smaller particles will disolve etc.. When you do your first water change just siphon off the top if there is any left. Don't wash your sand it defeats the purpose.

I agree. The sand should not be washed. Your tank will settle eventually:D Mine settled after 3 days. I did put in a bag of live sand ontop of the playsand which I am sure helped settle the 'milkshake'. If I had it to do over again I would not have wasted my money on the live sand.

oso even if wee buy normal sand from hardware stores or play sand we're not supposed to wash it?

arent they heaps dirty'?

Mine took a few days to settle.. leave the filter running.. Don't get discouraged as it took mine a good 6-7 days to become fully clear... for the first few weeks the sand will get distrubed really easy as well and make the water a little cloudy.. after a while it will all settle and the sand will not be as easily disturbed... to get rid of the foam i just used my fish net and scooped it off the top.. has not come back since..

Thanks for all of the quick replys. I turned the filters and powerhead back on, last night, after posting the message. Today, all of the foam is gone, and I can actually see into the tank. If you check the "reef keepers" post, you'll see my thread for "Just call me an idiot!".

I had a mishap in my 15 gal. reef (with the salinity) that killed my Percula and Firefish. I had to take everything else out (the live rock, the crabs, and the Hammer Coral). I put them all in the 55gal. that we're talking about here. I'm planning on keeping them in there for a week or so until I get the 15gal. set back up and more live rock bought for the 55gal.

I'll check the salinity tomorrow, of the 15gal, and if it's ok, I'm going to put one piece of live rock and the Coral back in that tank. The crabs are alot heartier than the coral and they'll be fine in the 55gal while it cycles.

Thanks, again, guys.
