The funny thing is, it is so easy to do. People just don't know what kinds of plants to pick out for their tank. All of these plants are generally very easy to grow, it just looks like I am constantly doing 20% water changes daily, I'm really only doing 15% weekly:)!

If you'd like a tank like this, but can't seem to get the plants to grow, your problem is probably lighting, Co2, microorganisms, and macroorganisms. Just go to Big Al's online and purchase a better lighting hood (somewhat expensive!). I recomend 3w per gallon. You can make your own Co2 injection system here. To get your micro and macroorganisms, (this is the best part!) just add some more fish:)! I recommend 1.4 inches per gallon to get adequate organism growth.

As for substrate, just some gravel on the bottom with about 1/4 inch of kitty litter on top.

Spoken by someone who has obviously never killed a living plant just by looking at it! :D (I seem to have a talent for killing all plants...)

Your tank is just gorgeous!!!

Honestly, this is only my third tank. I felt the EXACT same way when I brought the tank home and set it up. I think the things that made the main difference was the lighting and Co2. I didn't have adequate lighting for my former tank, and the plants never grew. They just kinda sat there, not dying, but also not growing. Just follow the tank specs and you'll do fine. I encourage everybody to try a planted tank at least once, if you don't like it, go ahead and go back to your boring cichlid tanks;).

P.S. I was just joking about the cichlids. I think they are beautiful:D!
