I have a 29 gallon tank with 4 Angels and 1 Bala Shark and I came
home late last night and found eggs on one of the plant leaves. I only
noticed because the Bala was eating them (he will be moved to another
tank) - panicking, I pulled the leaf off and put it into a breeder on the
side of the tank. I have no idea what to do. I do have a 10 gallon that
is not being used right now but I'm concerned about the stress of
moving the fry. I'm not even sure which Angels are the parents (although I
can take a guess at one of them because it seemed very aggravated when
I was moving the leaf). Should I try to figure out who the parents are
and move the other fish to another tank??? What do I do???

your angels are probably the cause, I would see if your angels would raise the fry if not I would carefully move them. oh, your bala will get too big for your 29G very shortly

The Bala is on his way to a 55 gallon. :) As for the angels...will the fry be alright in the same tank as other angels who are NOT the parents?

I would leave the eggs in the breeder net. Angel fry are notoriously hard to care for, you might have a better go at it if they are all in the same place where nothing can get to them and you can feed them more directly once they hatch. You will eventually need a grow-out tank, but for now the breeder net may be the best place for them.

the eggs need water moving over them ...the parents will fan the eggs and take turns.this helps to inhibit fungus/algae growth on the eggs.

if you place the eggs ina breeder net..you may want to increase circulation to the eggs..add an airstone under the breeder net(could cause some issues if the bubble accumulate and lift the net) or add the airstone directly in the breeder net under the leaf..egs face up.
you should be able to tell who's who..most of the time tha angels pair up and there should be an angel (if you have three) that is the odd wheel out.. if you have already removed the eggs i would be hesitant to place them back..

in my case I have several pairs in a couple tanks...lately the fry have not made it past wiggler..I do have 4 that I plulled after they made it to freeswimmers..they are 5-6 weeks old now.

my choice was to attempt parent raising..but the angels would kill the fry as they started to lay a new spanw..so I started removing freeswimmers..I raise the freswimmer..not to difficult but you need to do daily water changes and keep an eye out..I use sponge filters in my 'growout tank'

i also added a power filter with a sponge on the uptake tube ..this help reducefry being sucked up into the filter.

I had originally saved 10 fry of them 4 have made it to 5-6 weeks mini me's..it is worth the work to watch the changes in the freeswimmers to mini me's..the toughest have made it and two of them are starting to take on 'a' prime characteristics..aka beautiful angels..much more beautiful than the parents..
the fry I saved came from a sunset koi/marble koi parent..tow of the offspring are marbles with a gold tint to them.

I can't wait to see how they turn out

Thanks - that's really helpful. I'll leave the fry where they are for now but I'll add an air stone. How can reduce the stress of moving them to a grow out tank?

I think the parents are a zebra and a gold one (sorry - I don't know the technical terms for them). Both of them are HUGE and absolutely beautiful. The gold one was quite a fighter when s/he was younger but it very tame now. The zebra I got when it was very young and I’ve only had for a few months. I’m pretty sure that they are the pair. Would it be strange since one is so much older than other?

Not strange at all..the gold sounds like the dominant male in the tank..

and they will spawn as soon as they can..and spawn about every to weeks.

these are fry now?? the eggs have hatched ??

if they are eggs they won't even know they've been moved..if they turn to wigglers..is where it gets weird. wigglers sit on the bottom..and they can be suseptible to fungus, infection etc.

you may need to move them via baster to a clean surface..this is where I have lost some..I found the parents do a good job of taking care of the wigglers...

here is a link where you can pick up some good pointers

Still eggs! Sorry! Well - as far as I know. I've been at work all day so I don't know whats going on at home!!!

they usually stay eggs for about 3 days..
takea look at them..some may turn white others should stay clear with a slight bit of color..if they are forming a dark spot in it..it is getting ready to turn into a wiggler..it's at this stage the parents usually move the babies..and they continue to fan and may break up any clumps..the wigglers are usually sticky and can stick to surfaces.

when they turn to free swimmers you may want to look into a growout tank.
if they get to this stage you will want to hatch out bbs or get frozen bbs..the freeswimmers prefer the hatched freah bbs..but bbs are easy to hatch
good luck

Thanks for all the info. I was panicking because we had talked about breeding angels a long time ago and then I let it go assuming it probably wouldn’t happen - then it did and I was totally unprepared! Thanks for all your help!
