My boyfriend says.......

ph is largely a non-issue... and better to watch the kh anyway as that will set the ph stable.

But then nothing wrong with monthly wc either. a large wc is not an issue.

start doing small water changes on a schedule, then slowly increase the amount of the WC..
Ph ususally isnt a factor unless there is a significant change...

if you start out small, and keep on the routine, the ph will slowly adjust and be closer to that of the tap water, and the fish will also slowly adjust to the change...

Reminds me of when I worked at home depot... a gal came in with a regular pickup (hers, not his) and bought an entier pallet of concrete, 3000lbs, and wanted me to load it for her... her boyfriend said it was OK and the truck would haul it...

I told her it would take at least 3 trips... but she wouldn't listen and insisted... so she signs the damage waver and I get the forklift... slowly drop it down, saying holler when she wanted me to stop and I would load part of it... down it comes... it settles on the springs... silence... the tires start to bulge... silence... the springs bottom out... silence... I stop and lift the pallet out... and tell her I am not going to continue or the axle will break... she finally believed her boyfriend was wrong...

Moral of the story: It is always good to ask someone who knows the subject... :D... mostly it is a crazy story...

Well first off if your ph-and other water parameters are fine after the water changes every week then you are fine! Depending on what fish you have a small change in the PH wont matter. And it does sound like your boy-friend is going off of old school logic...so just tell him that there is a lot of new info about the hobby.

HAHA!! robbob2112 that is a great one for this situation!

LOL That is the way it is around my house every day. I think he is jealous of my fishies but for once I put my foot down and I guess his world is upset. But I am not going to quit no matter what. I love my fish and fishkeeping. Oh, I love my inverts too.

LOL just continue with your wcs and tell him to try and live in his own waste, does it feel good?! the ph doesnt really matter, most important is ammonia build up!
