hello I'm new to this site ? I have 2 jacks and 3 sevrums ? they all seem to be at the bottom of tank ?water temp is 75 degs and everything else is okay . They just stay together at bottom . Is this normal .

Welcome. As F fishorama said, we need more info. This likely won't be a sustainable mix of fish.

Welcome to AC

What size is your tank? That doesn't seem too outside of normal but it depends...tell us more please. What size are the fish?
Jack 1is around 4-6 in/jack 2 is 4 in /Green Sev 4 in diameter. The 2 red 3 in /the tank size is a 40 breeder.

Oh dear! That tank is not going to work for long with those fish. I'm sorry. I know they seemed so small & the tank so big but no! Both species grow to 8+ inches. Jacks are, like their namesake, pretty pugnacious. Severums are more mellow in comparison but they are big cichlids. I would say you can keep just 1 of any of those in a 40 breeder. Even if you have a M + F pair, somebody is going to get beat up or killed. A single cichlid can be a true wet pet, very people interactive...if they don't need to try & kill a tankmate. Think hard! This is not a long term tank or even a short term 1 with a Jack already that big. He'll soon beat the snot out of the other fish & may kill them.

I think Freshy has a severum & another big cichlid in a 75g. He has to do large water changes often. What say you Joel?

For a 40g breeder I'd tend toward a M + F pair of dwarf cichlids (apistos, rams or maybe kribensis) since you like them. & a school of mellow tetras or rasboras, maybe a smallish group of corydoras. Say 7 moderately big 1s or more of dwarf corys.

Thanks/a while back I had the same group in a 60 gal/don’t have that tank anymore) they all got big and they didn’t bother each other /the I got for free /im about to purchase a 90 with a sump system /the thing is though I also have an tiger oscar I which is around 8-10 in hopefully they’ll get along , and those others you mentioned I don’t like /I like the “bad ass ones 🤣” but thanks for the info .

We used to love medium cichlids in our 55gs. Dempseys for big fish, blue acaras, firemouths, maybe a severum a couple times. We didn't have the tank space for all the adults...or any fry. That was a problem after a short time...
