My bronze corydora is badly hurt, I noticed this morning that its tail was shredded and it was lying on the gravel upside down with its gills moving heavily. Which types of fish in my tank seem to attack? I feed the fish a lot of flakes and a sinking tablet once day. Is it possible the otos attacked it, because they are hungry? The otos have been in my tank for 5 days, but I don't notice them any where near the sinking tablets getting their fair share, I tried over feeding with flakes so they can find some food. I feed them every night and I watch them finish the food, so it would be weird my cory got attacked. Other wise, how do you guys think he got hurt?

I'm sorry to hear bout your cory. Were all your cory's put in together and do any others show any signs of damage. And i wouldn't of thought your other fish would of caused it. Could it of had something fall on it to trap the tail and it ripped free.

Could it possibly be a bacterial infection? Especially because he was lying upside down - as if sick, rather than hurt. If it is, he will need treatment.

If it's a one-off physical injury he will probably recover just fine, and then have learnt to avoid the cause. It's hard to imagine a 2' plec or little vegetarian Otto doing that damage, so look around for places where a fish could get caught. I have had fish damage themselves in filter impellers (eek!), having snuck through tiny gaps that I thought would be impossible until I witnessed it one day.

Good luck with him.

I just had this similar situation happen to me a week ago. I purchased 3 panda cories to add to my 55 gallon. I got them home and set them up in my drip acclimation bucket. After about an hour and a half, I put them in the tank. Two days later, I noticed one of the pandas had a torn-up rear fin, much like your pic. His dorsal fin was also ripped, and he lay on the gravel, breathing heavily. Within a couple hours, he was dead. The two other pandas were doing great, happy and healthy, and my parameters were 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 5 nitrates. So I was perplexed as to how he got beat up like that until the truth came out.....:FIREdevil:

my DH confessed that my 6 yo DS had bumped into the bucket and knocked the heavy clip (that's pinching the tubing for flow regulation) down into the bottom of the bucket. So now I'm thinking my little panda took a direct hit.....:shakehead:

I had one of my cories get injured recently and I still don't know how it happened. The people here recommended I use Melafix on it, which worked really well to heal it in about 4 days. So I would recommend that.
