My dads tank

First of all, I'm not a dude.

Second, I feel very strongly about people doing research *before* they go out and buy fish. Especially if they are a member on a forum with so much information available to them.

Green Spotted Puffers need to be in brackish water and they don't get along with tank mates. Some people keep them with saltwater fish though because green spotted puffers live well in marine conditions.

I think you should show your dad this thread since its his tank apparently, I'm sure he would feel the need to house the fish more appropriately.

Sorry, but to me that's just rude. Spock is very knowledgeable about puffers and they knows what they are talking about. We are here to help and if you don't want to listen to our advice then don't...but you are VERY overstocked and that's a fact.Do not be suprised if things do not end up well for all of your fish. Please just be reasonable, for the sake of your fish.

im reasonable, sorry to get angry but i wasn't. MY GSP is extremely friendly, swims everywhere, move out of the way of other fish, and loves my attention, seems to be thriving in freshwater. Not one bit of aggression either

Even if GSPs could live a long and happy life in freshwater, they would kill most of the fish in that tank. Balas get to be at least a foot long and will be stunted in a 55G. Also, NEVER buy fish from Wal-Mart. It is a well-known fact in the fish keeping community online that Wal-Mart keeps their fish in horrendous conditions.

And as for the "Who died..." comment.... not cool. You are asking us for help, and we are trying to help. I know Spock very well, and she tries hard to take care of her fish. If you don't want to take advice, why ask for it?

I'm still worried about the other 60 or so fish that are crammed into that tank. That NEEDS to be fixed.

i buy "walmart" fish because yes, they are kept in horrible conditions, that is why i get them, because i feel like im doing them a favor and putting them into a better home. As for being "over-stocked" my tank seems fine, all my fish are happy and readily greet me at the glass to feed. i never see 1 fish chasing another and all seem to love life.

I don't think you quite understand the size that some of these fish will reach.

bala shark- around 12-15"
gold/blue gourami- 4-5"
kissing gourami- 12"
colombian shark- 12-14"
dragon goby- 10-12"
rainbow shark- 5"

and this doesn't include potential stocking issues due to aggression or incompatibility.

Just because they are small and happy now doesn't mean they will not get bigger. Problem is based off of the room you are giving them I doubt that some of those fish will even make it to their adult size. I know that you think you are doing them a favor by rescuing them from walmart but in reality they are not going to live much better in the long run. Sorry to be blunt but thats how I feel.

Also "saving" fish from WalMart just makes it so they continue to buy and kill fish. If you really want to help the problem stop buying fish from WalMart. I know some WalMarts are getting rid of their fish be people aren't buying enough, this is what we want to happen to all WalMarts.

:troll: ? I can't really take this that seriously. Some person who thinks to cram that amount of incompatible/inappropriate fish into a 55 gallon has obviously done next to no research, and to have them actually believe that what they are doing is saving fish from a horrible fate, it all just seems a bit too contrived. Me thinks the o.p. was just trying to stir the pot a lil bit.

If he is "stirring the pot", he better say so now, or else someone might get banned :grinyes:.

If he's actually serious, you have potentially huge fish, like jpappy789 pointed out. I hate to say it, but fish are way better at Wal-Mart than in your overstocked tank. Is this your only tank, or do you have a couple RTCs in a 20G in the other room? :mad2::lipssealedsmilie:
