I feed them Discus Granules and flakes only what they can eat in a two minute period in each session. But in between they still act hungry. My wife and I feed them blood worms at night. Any ideas. Also still trying to figure out which one of the mating pair is male or female. I watch how interact with the others and I am still unsure.

i would keep feeding them what you normally do them being pumped up about eating is a sure sign of happy health fish well it always seems that way

Discus are persistent beggars at the front of the tank, and hungry all the time! They pretend they are starving all day long, and it's hard to turn away from them when you know they don't really need more food. I think they'd eat themselves to death if permitted to! They remind me of dogs begging for biscuits all the time! Perfectly normal. As long as your discus continue to grow and also put some sizeable girth on, and then maintain that girth as adults, you can pretty much be assured your feeding plan is correct. I'm always more "easy-does-it" with flakes and discus pellets due to the ease at which this type of food can lodge uneaten between the plants. I am more generous with the Frozen Bloodworms. I've got other tankmates in with the discus, and I haven't encountered any fish yet that will leave a bloodworm anywhere in the tank uneaten! I also hold each cube while it melts and the discus all peck the worms off. For my tank, this works much better than just throwing some cubes into the tank. A barebottom tank wouldn't matter, but with planted tanks, we go a bit more cautiously with feedings. How many discus in that tank and how much FBW do you give them at a feed?

:iagree::iagree:
I like the term girth

as Discus can get chunky if fed properly.

I always thaw the bloodworms..placing a frozen cube in a tank of hungry discus results in a discus with a cold tummy ;)
they'll eat chunks of frozen worms if given the opportunity.

Yup me too.

I've got them eating the worms from my fingers and that's so much fun !

It's also a lot easier to make sure they get most of what goes into the tank rather than to tank mates and/or plants.

What's even better is, with them acclimated to my hand in the tank during feeding, they don't scatter/hide when I do maintenance.
