My Fake Planted Tank

Thanks!

Jannika - They're actually made by Top Fin. I got them at PetSmart. They're silk plastic plants. They feel soft to the touch and are not stiff and hard like ordinary plastic plants.

They cost a little more, but are totally worth it. They look much better and flow in the aquarium.

Here's a link to them on petsmart's page that I was able to find.

Just make sure you get the silk plants.

Thanks, I'll check them out! My water and low-tech setups don't support most plants, so I'm always on the lookout for realistic-looking ones.

Yeah I hear ya. I used to do low light plants like Lutea and other Crypts, but keeping up with the lighting and everything can get $. I'm going to get back to that eventually but for now, these are about as good as it gets.

I messed around with my camera settings and got a few better pics I think. These show the fakes and the tank a little nicer I think.

Looks really nice! Love your rams. Is that a bolivian I may have caught a glimpse of? Hard to tell in the picture lol.

In my lightly planted tank I do add a few silk and plastic plants to fill in spaces. I too, would be interested in what brands these are, especially the ones towards the back that look sorta like cambomba and anachris. I would swear they are real. I love my life plants and they are filling in nicely, but it would be nice to have some artificial ones to fill voids until my real plants grow in and fill the voids.

I want to say again, really good job with your aquascaping.

Thanks again guys! I love taking time to scape things out as best as possible. Its fun.

All of them are plastic silk plants by Top Fin. The ones towards the back are older, but I know they are Top Fin as well. I usually buy the largest ones available because they extend the highest into the water column. I try to fill in the gaps with smaller fake plants in between the next taller plant. I try to replicate what happens in nature a little bit when smaller plants are stunted or snuffed out because the taller plants are blocking them from getting adequate sunlight. Then I try to tilt others as if they're growing up and out towards the best source of light.

No Bolivian Rams, just two German Blue Rams. I got a colorful pair of them but I think they are both males unfortunately. I was hoping for a m/f. It might b the very young Geo Jurupari that looks similar to a Bolivian in the pic. Got one more pic of one of my rams just now too.
