Someone please help! I have a beautiful fancytail "oranda" goldfish and she has a white cottony spot between her` mouth and eye of my fish "Tallulah". I had another one but unfortunately my "Jasmine" has died about 2 weeks ago. But she didn't have any spots on her. Although, she was a multicolored oranda (orange, black, and white) I hadn't noticed any abnormalities. Only that she was floating on her back alot. But that happened before and the problem went away after salt treatments and water changes. However this time it did not work. She died after 2 weeks. And now I'm trying to save my last one. She's pretty active and not floating upside down as much as the other. She's still pretty perky and happy and still tries to communicate with me as always. That's why I want to do as much as I can to help her live.

My tank set up is 29 gallons, ammonia is 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 40, weekly water changes, and my tank has been set for a year and a half. I appreciate and welcome any and all help or ideas.

Thanks,
Rockie:sad:

Alright, I only got one reply therefore I think this is what the problem might be, Mouth Fungus/Body fungus because my oranda "Tallulah" has a fluffy white spot above his mouth. I had another oranda that died a few weeks ago. I believe she had swim bladder disease because she was swimming upside down alot. Because she was a speckeled multi-colored fish I hadn't noticed any spots like my last fish.

I immediately removed the dead fish and did a 50% water change that day, and one every week after that. What can I do to treat this fish? She's the last one that I have left and she's swimming pretty good and is still pretty happy and active. I just want to keep it that way. The only thing that I can see that's wrong with her is her cottony spot on her mouth. Please help! I'm desperate. How do I treat mouth or body fungus? I love this little fish:sad:

Thanks,
Rockie

Well, I didn't like the treatment option offered in the link I gave you. Here is something to try:

MarOxy will treat the fungus, but if you also treat with Maracyn or Maracyn-two at the same time as the MarOxy, it will help fend off any secondary bacterial infection.

also treat with Maracyn or Maracyn-two

They aren't interchangeable, but they can be used at the same time. One is for gram positive and one is for gram negative bacteria. Unless you use both to make it a broad spectrum antibiotic, you're just shooting in the dark.

Okay I bought the Maracyn and the MarOxy today. Should I use them both together or just one. And should I do a water change before adding the medication? My nitrate level is the only thing that's still kind of high it's now down to 10 it was 40 a few days ago. Do I just drop the tablet in and let it do it's job or do I need to do more?

Well I have been giving my fish both the Maroxy and the Maracyn and she "seems" to be doing alright (eating, and actively swimming, and trying to interact with me). It says to do this process for 5 days and continue after for another 5 days. I believe that she has suffered from swim bladder disease in the past from which my other fish Jasmine died from about a month ago. But it seems to have just went away as she is no longer swimming sideways or upside down. I heard that it was good to feed them peas when this happens or just in general to help keep them regular. But I hear some conflicting suggestions. What is the proper way to feed them this? Some say boil them, some say frozen, and some say peel the skin off. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for your earlier suggestions on the maracyn and the maroxy. For it seems my Tallulah is hanging in there. I'm gonna try and post some pictures of her. She's so cute and has the biggest head!!! :)
