i have a hawaii feather duster that left his tube last night and moved down to the bottom of the tank and retreaved back into the rocks. so far appears to be alive, but my nassarius snails are lerking near by. and they attacked him before when he was still in the tube, so i had to put him up higher away from them. what is going on? i am going to do a water change tonight, but interesting thing is that i got him at the store where one of the feather dusters was out of the tube already, but i didn't think nothing of it, because i thought that he was stresing after shipping over to the store. i got this one about a week or so ago, and he was at the store for some time and the crown wasn't out all the way. now "not out all the way" is not an issue:huh:

well, the worm appears to be dead. i just don't get why the crown still moves around. i don't see my snails moving it and i don't have nothing else powerful enough to move it. thinking it might be a flow. looks like a tale fell of the worm on his way into the rocks. bristle worm climing the worm. why my nassarius snails don't show too much interest? i don't want to tougch because it's freaky looking. my poor feather duster:sad:

I sorry to hear that it passed on... IT's never fun loosing somthing as cool as them.

I love feather dusters not into inverts but those I love. I had a large Atlantic feather duster leave its home and I freaked out .
My yellow tail damsel was picking at it . I put the naked feather duster in one of those mesh with plastic frames fish breeding things that you hang inside the tank.
The feather duster grew back his brown tube home and I than put him back in tank and he settled in by a rock and did fine (it was a little stuck to mesh bag so cut tiny bit of mesh off to remove him and just sewed it back up).
If you like feather dusters its a good thing to have just incase next one leaves his home.
They are hardy and will reproduce but I find first 2 weeks some might leave their homes once you introduce them into tank.

that is sad im sry man. id recommend getting rid of the nassa snails i no longer carry them at my work because they will finish off sick animals that could normally be saved i have helplessly watched them eat many fish alive.

Since you own a fish store . I wanted to ask you if there are any hermit crabs that stay tiny (less than an inch) and will not nip at feather dusters ?

I have lots feather dusters and no other inverts but would like to add a few tiny HARMLESS hermits but not sure if truly such a thing .

Thanks

Bianca

Oh those are cute I have seen them. Lol the part that they "usually" leave dusters alone makes me think not to risk it.
I didnt know they were opportunistic feeders thought maybe some tiny hermit type would be a strict algae eater so wont risk it but going to set up another hexagon tank and think they will work out for that.
Thanks

that sounds like a good idea and could be done. but i didn't think of it then, but now i don't know where he is and if he is dead or alive

Dont be suprised if you see it in a couple of weeks sticking out of the side of your rocks . I love feather dusters they add a lot to the tank and dont require special lighting, etc as my 55 gallon only has 2-40 watt bulbs - Pet Store I go to thinks Big Hawaiins are more prone to leave their tubes and even drop their feathers (first 2 weeks you have them) BUT if water is okay they make a comeback .
I only keep Atlantics as think they are collected not far from here and you can find tiny ones around May by side of piers ,etc but the Hawaiins at same size have a much nicer head (feathers) and range in lighter shades to darker .
