I had got a 10 gallon tank about a month ago, got the water tested, they said everythign was good, and I went to go get some fish for it. Well I ended up getting 3 black fin sharks, and a small tire track eel. They all ate fine for about a week, I did a little bit of the flakes and bloodworms. well after the first week one of my black fins stayed at the bottem and wasnt very active, and stopped eating then he ended up dieing. Then the next week the same thing happend to another one. I wasnt getting what was going on so I went and got it tested again and they said that everything seems normal, and they didnt have an answer. then the next day my eel died. I waited awhile and nothing else did so I got it tested before I bought anything else and my next thing I bought was a Peacock eel. Hes doing good very active. I had rememberd reading online that blackfins can have venom in thier bit and in the bottem fins, So I thought maybe I had got an agresive one and he bit the others or something. but the next day my last black fin was acting the same way, he stopped eating, and slowly stopped being active and died also. Now Im scared for my Eel, even though he's doing good as far as I can tell. I just dont know whats going on. Anyone have any Ideas
 
your tank is way too small for those fish,
Black fin sharks Are also known as Columbian sharks and are BW fish, They get huge,

Eels need more then 10G but I am not sure on total size. someone will have to help with that one.
 
all of those fish you bought were way too smal for a 10g. they most likely died from stunting, or the columbians just wasted away not being in brackish water. cloumbians get to a little over a foot I think, and would need at least 200Gs for three. tire track eels get to around 2-3 feet i think, and most likely died from stunting. and your peacock eel will share the same fate if you don't get a tank of at least 40gs for it, since they get to a little over a foot full grown.
 
well Im setting up a 55 gallon right now, and I know that the black fins got big but they were only like an inch in a half, and no one ever told me that they were BW when I bought them. I know that the eel got big and thats why I had went out and got the 55 gallon, But I mean, why did all of them die the same way, was there some disease that was brought in?
 
nope. all stunting, most likely. unless... was ther anything unusual about the corpses? were they bloated? covered in little flecks of white or gold? did you make sure the tank was cycled? did you make sure your ammonia and nitrite levels were at zero and your nitrate level was below 20ppm?

sounds like you may not have 'cycled' the tank.

I would test the water and get new readings. generally if you didn't cycle the tank, you may find high ammonia and at nitrite at this stage, both of these can be toxic.

fish dont out grow a tank in two weeks unless they are big to start out with, and im pretty sure they dont die from being smaller than they should. kntrygrl4lyfe said that they were small when she got them.
they probably died from ammoina and nitrite poisoning
 
both of those fish are fast growers. they could have died from stunting, you never know, man... but you're right. i'm beginning to think it was most likely from an uncycled tank.
