I just added a new member to my family and now my ouse is starting to stink due a smelly fish tank. In the tank is a black fin shark, he is in a new tank filled with spring water and a pump running all the time, the tank has a light some small gravel and a few fake plants. The only thing I can think of is he has ick and I have been treating for that but will ick make the tank water stink and either way how do I get ride of the smelly water. The fish has only been in the tank for a few days. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

how big is the tank? How long has it been set up, do you have a test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate? Are you using medication to treat the ich?

^what she said.

a cycling tank can often give off a bad smell until it levels out. you should be doing lots of water changes (using dechlorinator). stop adding anything for ich unless your fish is covered in little white dots. that is what ich looks like.

and by "pump running all the time" do you mean air pump or filter? you do have a filter, right?

I have him a one gallon tank right now. I went and got a new set up last light, a ten gallon tank with heater, pump, filter, everything and now I have the new tank running, I also used water conditioner in the tank as well as aquarium salt. I think the tank will be more than enough for him if he lives. Oh and it turns out its not ick its fin rot and I have been treating him for that since yesterday. Unfortunatly I dont think any of this going to work I will be very surprised if he is still alive today when I get home from work. I also did a fifty percent water change yesterday. How long should I let the run before putting in a fish, I keep hearing one day, one week, two weeks, or a almost a month. Please help.
