There’s a chamce it would work, but the tangs and tetras come from places with totally different conditions. The rift lakes have very hard water unlike where tetras come from. That being said, most fish have been bred in captivity for so many generations that they’re most likely used to a more neutral PH. So I’m not saying it’s a “hell no” I’m saying probably not, at least not long term, IMO
May be they are more suitable for species tanks.

That’s would be ideal, but I have had success keeping them with other Rift Lake cichlids, I don’t think it has to be a species only, but sticking to smaller tangs would definitely make life easier
