OK, this is really it …….(haven’t I said that before? But I’m not a quitter). I need your advice…

I have posted several threads regarding my betta who has lost his scales due to some mystery bacteria/fungus.

He is not getting any better. This infection is stumping me. I have tried Maracyn/Maracyn 2. Jungle fungus eliminator, Maroxy. I have tried a sulfur product. I have also used Melafix. All the while, I have been maintaining diligent water changes. I have not used anything in two weeks other than the water changes. He has lost all of his scales and now I see white tufts of fungus on the tips of his fins, and I think at the base of them also. Not a good sign.

At this point, I don’t have any other ideas. I’m ready to just let the powers that be take him to his fishy resting place.

Does anyone have “ANY” clue as to what to do next? Can anyone recommend a medication that I haven’t tried yet? I’m ready to take him out of the aquarium and thoroughly clean the tank, substrate, etc. Should I change the filter medium and replace or sterilize the bio-wheel? Could the culprit be hiding in the biofilter (or gravel)? My thinking is that I have medicated and killed the beneficial bacteria right out of the tank anyway……

I realize that this would be cycling the tank again, but I would sterilize it anyway if this guy died, before I got another fish to put into it. I just don’t trust the tank.

Should I just do nothing and let him go?

Take him out of the tank....put him in a walmart size betta bowl and float him in the tank (to maintain water temps)

Change his water every day...have another bowl floating in the tank too and just switch him from one bowl to the other each day....cleaning out and setting up the "old" bowl to be ready for the next switch.

Add some aquarium salt to the bowl as well. Use your judgement there, I just sprinkle some in. You can give betta fix a try if you want. Basically it's a teatree oil remedy...very natural. It's a 7 day treatment with no water changes...but I do water changes when I have to use that.....I just make sure to add the proper dose of BettaFix to each change....(6 drops on the first day...12 drops on the 2nd day.....etc..etc....) This does tend to use up alot of the med...but I can't see having a sick fish sit in filthy water for 7 days...treatment or not.

Try just the every day clean water and salt approach first...maybe your fish is just reacting to all the meds you've tried thus far... My guess though...is that fish is getting tired from all the treatments and may just be getting ready to swim off into parts unknown....but you just never know...and where there's life, there's hope ! ;)
