I not sure why he snapped but he mauled the female pretty bad. there is usually egg crate between them in their 75G but I decided to put in 2 huge pieces of driftwood to waterlog it, in preparation for their 6 footer 100G tank, which is here already, but the stand isn't finished yet.

1 night was all it took, she is in bad shape. a ton of scales missing & fungus starting to grow everywhere now, it seems. she is in a quarantine 10G tank now in an anti-fungal, anti-bacterial bath. hope she pulls thru...

wonder why he snapped & why she couldn't defend herself this time? she has been pretty resistant before, dishing out as much as she took... not this time though, he doesn't have a single scratch on him?! but he is a little bigger then her now... he's 9", she's 8" now. makes me wonder if they'll make it unseparated in the 100G.... may need some target fish...

I'm sorry to hear that. :(

I have a pair of oscars that did that. Best of friends for the longest time and then one night after a water change, I discovered Nicholas trying kill poor Armand. Armand didn't fight back much and I had to pull him out. I have no idea why they snap like that either. I told the story to my mother and she suggested maybe one said something the other didn't like. :D ;)
After about a week, I put Armand back into the tank and they have been perfect buddies ever since. You just never know.

Male Jaggs get soo teritorial when they hit the 8-9" mark

the anti-fungal/bacteria bath really helped her. the big fungus puffs have fallen/faded off. but the damage is visible now. she is missing scales from parts of her body, BARE FLESH is visible. OUCH!!! it's gonna take a while to recover from that. she hasn't eaten yet since the incident.... hmmm I wonder if the red devil in the other ad-joining 75G ticked off the male jag... see the red devil always flares at the female jag, however when I took off the egg crate, the male jag could now see the devil when he went over to her side....

she's close to 100% healed now. wow took almost 1 month to heal up. I finally took her out of the 10G quarantine tank yesterday. changed her water once, sometimes twice a week while adding anti-fungal med & some salt. sure enuff she grew scales back to cover up all the de-scaled areas. if u 1st saw her w/all the open & fungal(ed) areas, u may think she wouldn't make it.
