As a self-proclaimed authority on everything Eagles (and solo careers, of course), I can give you an interesting fact about this lyric.

It's actually written about the time that he was travelling with Keith Moon. Moony always wanted connecting doors between the rooms and at one hotel they stayed in, they didn't have spare rooms next to each other with this particular feature. So, Moony (a couple of bottles of Brandy to the better) decided he would install it himself.
