Thanks to your help and suggestions I got my tank a few days ago...........last night I had an incident. My Blue Gourmani (3 spot)attacked my dwarf gourami, it ate most of its tail off. it was chasing and attacking it. I took the aggressor out of the tank and the "victim" is finally now eating and active...I thought these were compatible......What do I do with the aggressive one????

Gouramis are aggresive towards each other (especially 3 spots and dwarfs and if they are males). Gouramis usually get along with other fish. How big is your tank? In order to keep both you need a large tank with many hiding spots. I suggest you either take one back to the pet store or put them in seperate tanks.

it is a 29 gallon.........We removed the blue G and I think I'll have to take him back.........

will the dwarf G's fins grow back?

The fins will grow back, although it may be a little while. It's been my experience that 3-spot gourami are more along the lines of semi-aggressive. In any case, they, at the very least, bully dwarves.

could I get another dwarf to go with the sole one???? Or should I just leave it the way it is

1 dwarf
6 head lights tail lights
4 tetras
2 corys

I had two dwarfs in a 29. They were both male and beat the crap out of each other. I have had luck with multiple gouarmis with 1 male and 2 or more females. Females are usually much less aggressive toward each other than males but they are usually not as colorful. I think 1 male and 2 female dwarfs would do well in your tank but I would suggest you add more places for them to hide.

I think that I will not add any more at this time, the rest of the fish are very peaceful and I think that I will just leave the tank be at this many. Also I want to let "Sparkle" (that is what my son named our dwarf G) rest a little bit after all the trauma!!!!!

interesting, my wife has a 10 gallon with a powder blue dwarf, a neon blue dwarf, a sunset dwarf, a run-of-the-mill red/blue striped dwarf and a white dwarf we are unsure of (may be female). They occasionally chase eachother a bit but no damage is done other than we noticed the sunset is missing half of his upper lip which could have been that way when we bought him, unsure. When we tried to put my gold gourami in the tank, he instantly started chasing them nonstop so we yanked him. I think it really depends on when they are introduced to the tank. The fish with senority will usually chase the new fish for a while but as long as they are not hurting eachother, they usually tire of chasing and co-exist pretty well. I'm becoming less and less of a labyrinth fish fan because of their aggression and think I've had my last. My wife loves the gourami's so I let her get what she wants and so far the dwarf's have been pretty good. I adopted the gold gourami when he was abandoned at wal mart and they were gonna flush him and wish I hadn't. He was ok for a while but now he tries to kill any new additions to my tank. Kyle
