My puffer has a half inch brown parasite looking string hanging from the top of his gill. He also appears to be under the weather. I have only had him about one week. I have had hundreds of fish but never a puffer, I've looked up some threads and done some research but I can't exactly find what this thing is.

Could be some type of worm. There are some meds that may help but the answers to questions Orion asked will help first! Hope this helps!
It was a green (leopard) puffer. R.I.P... It looked exactly like a bloodworm. Whatever it was, he must have been infested internally, cause his health diminished quickly during yesterday. All my others are in perfect health ( moray,chromides,and my mono). But yea, I definetly know it was a worm.
